Fire safety questions South Wales landlords ask
- How often does a fire alarm need servicing?
- BS 5839 recommends that fire alarm systems are inspected and serviced by a competent person at least every six months, with every device tested across a twelve-month cycle. The responsible person or tenants should also test one manual call point each week and record it in the logbook.
- What fire alarm grade does an HMO need?
- Most three-storey HMOs require a Grade A LD2 system under BS 5839-6: a control panel with mains-wired detection in escape routes, sleeping rooms and higher-risk rooms. Two-storey properties with fewer occupants can often use a Grade D LD2 interlinked system. Council licence conditions decide the final grade.
- Do you cover my area of South Wales?
- We cover Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bristol, Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil, Bridgend, Gloucester, Cwmbran and the towns between them, working from our base in Bargoed. If your postcode is not listed, call and we will tell you straight away whether we can attend.
- Are you available outside normal working hours?
- Yes. Our engineers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and bank holidays, for faults, unwanted activations and systems locked in fault mode.
- How quickly will I get a quote?
- We arrange a site survey at a time that suits the property, and the written, itemised quote is returned the same day the survey is carried out. It covers equipment, labour, commissioning and certification with no extras added later.
