A fire alarm installation in Canton is designed to BS 5839-1 for commercial premises or BS 5839-6 for shared housing. AS Fire Services surveys the building, specifies the correct grade and category, installs the system and hands over design, installation and commissioning certificates.

## What does a fire alarm installation in Canton involve?

Four stages, in the same order every time. A survey establishes the building layout, escape routes and use, which fixes the grade and category. A design sets the device schedule, zoning and panel position. Installation runs first fix cabling and second fix devices, sequenced around tenants or trading hours. Commissioning tests every device, sets sound levels against the BS 5839 requirement at the bedhead or in the escape route, and produces the certificates. You keep the drawings, zone chart and logbook.

## Which system suits a Canton conversion?

Canton's larger Victorian villas around Severn Road and Romilly Road convert well into flats, and those conversions usually need a common-area BS 5839-1 system interfaced with Grade D detection inside each dwelling. Smaller two-storey shared houses off Leckwith Road are usually Grade D LD2 interlinked systems. Cowbridge Road East cafes, salons and shops sit on conventional or addressable BS 5839-1 panels sized to the fire risk assessment, most often category M or L2 depending on sleeping risk above the unit.

## Can you install without closing a Cowbridge Road business?

In most cases yes. We first fix cabling in the quiet part of the trading week or before opening, keep public areas clear of ladders during service hours, and reserve the noisy work for closed periods. Panel changeovers are planned so the premises are never left without detection during occupied hours. If a full closure is genuinely unavoidable we tell you at quote stage, not on the day.

## What certificates do you get after installation?

Under BS 5839-1 you should receive three certificates covering design, installation and commissioning, plus an acceptance certificate where the purchaser signs off. We issue these on handover with a zone chart at the panel, an as-fitted drawing and a logbook set up for your weekly call point tests. That is the evidence pack an insurer, a licensing officer or a purchaser's solicitor will ask to see.
